Generally a job application is of two kinds:

2. In general, a job application is also called a cover letter.

Let's discuss both of these one by one.

1. Set format of job application form: Here you already have a set format dictated by the organization where you are applying for. Now-a-days online applications are popular.

While filling the same be ready with the following details:

-Educational details: keep your grades in handy cause you will have to fill in the relevant boxes.

-Position you are applying for: You will have to mention what post you are interested in. Also be ready to answer if you would like to work full time or part time.

-Employment information/type of experience: Keep in handy the name, address and phone number of your current as well as previous employer. Salary details and the reasons for leaving the current job.

-References: Be ready to provide references of people who have worked with you or know you personally.

-Complete every column and do not leave anything blank

-Check for spellings and grammatical errors.

-List the most recent job first; same goes for education as well.

-If it's a written application, do not forget to sign it.

2. Cover Letter: A cover letter is a self defined business job application, where you can advertise for yourself. The following three points should be covered in your cover letter:

-Introduce yourself and be to the point. Mention the purpose of writing.

-Mention the post you are interested in and why.

-Also describe why you think you are suitable for this post.

-Thank the hiring manager for giving you the opportunity to introduce yourself. Ask for a suitable time you can have an interview with him. Do mention your availability through phone etc.

Both types of job applications are succeeded with a resume where you can mention further details. Always remember a job application is the first communication you send to your employer. Make sure it's well drafted and error free. After all the first impression is always the last.
