Chrome Exchange Parts For Motorcycles

One of the first things many people like to do when they get a new motorcycle is improve its appearance by loading it up with lots of chrome goodies. One of the options that's available and has been very popular for several years is the use of a chrome exchange service.

The upside of using this type of service is that instead of removing your components, sending them off to a plating shop and having to wait weeks, or even months, to get your stuff back, you can get your "chrome" right now!

If you've decided you can't wait and this is the way you're going to go, there are a few important issues that you may want to factor into this decision. For starters, it's not a great idea to remove your "moving" components from your brand new motorcycle and exchange them for "other" chrome replacement parts.

Let's use the example of lower legs. Say you remove these items from your new motorcycle... and you've only got about 1300 nice and easy "break-in" miles on those babies. When you exchange them for a chromed set, there's a good possibility you could end up with replacements that have 40,000 miles on them along with no knowledge of how they were maintained!

Or how about the rocker box covers. How do you know if the person who owned them prior to you wasn't running the crap out of the motor and maybe because of the heat factor, the components got distorted? It's the same thing with brake calipers, swing-arm components, etc.

Keep in mind the businesses that offer these chrome exchange programs have no idea where these parts may have come from, how many miles have been put on them, or how that might have been abused.

If you decide to use a chrome exchange program, make sure you get some type of warranty or guarantee in writing for fitment and leak issues. And, check to make certain the plating process used on the parts is a high quality copper-buffed, triple-plated chrome process.

If you are just swapping out basic bolt-on items, it's not that big of a deal where the parts may have come from. But keep on the look out for a substandard plating process.

Custom Chopper Motorcycles - Riding the Dream

There comes a time in everyone's life when motorcycles become not only interesting but accessible, for me this was aged 15, and at 16 I had my first motorbike.

chopper bicycle for sale

The bike in question was a Suzuki ZR50 which was built like an old school chopper, with the seat, and handlebars to match, despite its blistering 28mph top speed! But unlike my friends who took an interest in the sports style motorcycles, I was hooked on the custom chopper and Harley Davidson scene.

My ZR50 spent quite a lot of time in bits, I painted it up by myself, tricked up the engine to a new top speed if 48mph and I even painted a design of Eddy from Iron Maiden on one of the plastic farings.

That was 1987 and since then the custom motorcycle bug is an itch that I still enjoy scratching.

But the custom chopper & motorcycle scene is bigger today than it has ever been with the popularity of TV programmes such as American Chopper highlighting Orange County Choppers, and buying and selling custom built motorcycles is big business.

Finding the right market value for a motorcycle with a specific specification is difficult enough, but determining the value of a custom built motorcycle is a bit of an art, and you need to know what you are doing, so you're buying or selling a custom made motorcycle, then you need to see what other custom motorcycles are selling for, and get a heads up on the true market value.

Purchasing a custom motorcycle at the right price is an excellent investment IF you know what you are looking for, and you will be the envy of your friends.

If you are in the market for a custom chopper or Harley Davidson then you need to know your numbers and market value. Use our unique software algorithm to search for the best deals on the internet including eBay.

In these economic times people are selling their custom motorcycles at unheard of prices which means you can pick up a real quality custom motorcycle bargain.

Now, most of us who were alive during the Nineties remember this scene from the classic American film, Pulp Fiction. I remember watching this movie for the first time and then wondering to myself, "What the hell is a difference between a chopper and a motorcycle?" This was before shows like American Chopper and Monster Garage came on to the scene and helped educate the public on the difference between a motorcycle and a custom built chopper.

A chopper is pretty much a motorcycle that had been customized, or "chopped" to give it individuality. The practice of building custom motorcycle choppers started sometime after World War Two when the biker culture began. Veterans came back from Europe, and found the big clunky motorcycles built by Harley Davidson and Indian unsatisfactory when compared to the lighter, faster European bikes. They decided to change the bikes by removing anything and everything that was unnecessary. They began to shorten, or remove the fenders to give the bike a sleeker look and the term "chopper" was born.

The custom-built chopper motorcycle evolved further during the sixties and seventies. Bikers began removing everything that was deemed unnecessary and replacing everything that seemed too big. Out went the windshield, the big blinkers and the big seats. The began raking the front wheel, so that it extended further out from the bike, giving the motorcycle a "cool" look and raising the handle bars higher. These customized motorcycles began to morph away from anything that was factory standard and became unique as each owner tailored their individual bike to what they deemed necessary.

The chopper took on an American Iconic status after the release of "Easy Rider" in 1969. Soon thereafter, the idea of a custom built motorcycle left the realm of the outlaw biker and entered the domain of the typical American. Soon, talented designers opened their own customizing shops replacing the guy in the backyard who put together bikes for fun. People started going to these shops to get their customized choppers instead of building it themselves.

As the baby boomer generation began to age, the demand for these nostalgic symbols of individuality began to rise. Soon, custom-built motorcycles were being produced and sold for exorbitant prices. Choppers were no longer the vehicles for the outlaw biker. They had instead become the status symbol for the weekend hobbyist with expendable income. Still, when I see one of these bankers going through a midlife crises flying down the freeway on a Chopper I cannot help but feel a shiver of danger and rebellion.

Seized Motorcycles - Find A Cheap Motorcycle At an Auction

There are a lot of dealers across the country who can give you great deals on used motorcycles. But another option that you could do is go to a seized motorcycle auction event and bid for a motorcycle that you like.

Auctions are a great place to find cheap motorcycles. Armed with the right knowledge about motorcycles and the bidding process, dreaming of cruising the highway on your very own bike will not be that far off.

PRICE CHOPPER APPLICATION

Now, let's begin with the reasons why motorcycles in a seized motorcycle auction are offered so cheap. Most of the units sold in these kinds of auctions were repossessed or seized by the government from owners that were involved in illegal activities. Some of the units came from old stocks of the government agencies. Old police motorcycles and such are sometimes put up for bid especially if particular law agencies have decided to upgrade their motorcycle patrols.

Another reason is that, since the government was able to get the motorcycles for free so they can actually sell them at really cheap prices. The government is also keen on cashing out on these motorcycles since storing them is much more expensive in the long run plus as the years go by the value of the bike will depreciate more and more. That's why the government often times hold seized motorcycle auction events and tries to get as much money as they could from the sale.

However, precisely because a seized motorcycle auction offers cheap units, you really need to be careful in joining any kinds of bids. You need to inspect the merchandise thoroughly first. Here your knowledge or expertise will help you determine if the motorcycle is worth the advertised value and how much the maximum bid for it should be. It is common in a seized motorcycle auction that bidding wars ensue because of emotions getting in the way.

Never ever join in a bidding war even if you like the bike so much. You don't want to end up paying more for a motorcycle than what its worth. When you go to a seized motorcycle auction you need to set a ceiling or a maximum bid for yourself and learn to stick with it. You're goal is to find a perfect motorcycle at the lowest price possible and not the opposite.

There are also some things that you need to watch out in a seized motorcycle auction. One of which are phrases that at first glance are not that important but later on proves to be crucial especially when filing claims of refund, warranty and misrepresentation of the merchandise.

The word "As Is" is a great defense for any claims. Most motorcycles in a seized motorcycle auction are sold "As is" with not as much as a 30 day warranty in any parts of the bike. Sellers also tend to exaggerate and promise a whole lot of things during the events. Without any written contract or agreement it is very hard to prove that they promised this and that when they were auctioning off the bike.

So in a seized motorcycle auction your instincts play a little bit when bidding on a product. If you feel that there's something wrong with the motorcycle or with what the seller is saying, it is best to avoid it and move on with the other bikes for sale. Be wise with your purchase.
